Borders should include -from about 1 inch cranial to the xiphoid of the sternum to include the full diaphragm and heart apex to the greater trochanter to include the coxofemoral joints. Include the entire abdomen. Spine should be straight and symmetrical. Center beam on 13th rib at the thickest area. Capture image on expiration.

For v/d, lie patient on back in dorsal recumbency. Measurements, borders and beam positioning are the same as for lateral view. Include entire abdomen. Spine should be straight and symmetrical. Capture image on expiration.
